RESOLUTION (Article 31) - PASSED

Resolution of Opposition to Corporate Personhood

WHEREAS corporations claim the First Amendment right to freedom of speech in order to use their wealth and power to influence our electoral and legislative processes and control public airways and the mass media;

AND WHEREAS corporations that damage the environment use the Fourteenth Amendment to contest regulation, and the Fourth Amendment to deny citizen oversight and inspection;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town of Eastham supports the abolition of corporate personhood and adopts the position that corporations are not persons, and are not entitled to the rights of persons in the Bill of Rights and civil rights legislation under the U.S. Constitution.
